Bromilow Architects have recently been granted planning permission for the refurbishment of this large house in Caldy, Wirral. Originally constructed in 1938 and with its last major refurbishment in the late 1970′s the house was in need of a major update.

We have worked closely with the clients and the Wirral Conservation Area team to steer the project through the planning process.

Work has already started on the internal alteration to the inside of the existing property. The major part of the scheme to improve and enlarge the existing kitchen area, utility and new cinema room will commence shortly. A new basement wine cellar is also to be constructed. as part of the extension. The new detached garage will also be constructed to free up internal space within the property.

Local architecture practice Bromilow Architects has signed up to take part in Architect in the House, the joint charitable initiative by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Shelter.

Homeowners can receive an hour consultation with an RIBA chartered architect (such as Stephen or Sally Bromilow) for a suggested donation of £40 to Shelter. Whether it’s inspiration for a study, an extra bedroom, or just better living space you need, a chartered RIBA architect can offer creativity and professional advice that will help bring your ideas to life.

Stephen, said: ‘I urge anyone in Wirral who is thinking of undertaking work on their home to use an architect who has signed up for Architect in the House. We can help people unleash the potential of their homes while helping those with more significant housing problems.’

Shelter estimates that more than 650,000 households in Britain are overcrowded, affecting over 1 million children in England alone. The donation will go towards Shelter’s work to help all those living in conditions that have a devastating effect on family life and children’s safety, health and education.

Homeowners can register for their consultation by visiting www.architectinthehouse.org.uk The project launches officially on 16 April 2012, and matching will take place from May, with homeowners being matched to the local RIBA chartered practices and architects best suited to meet their needs.

Over the Christmas break,  Bromilow Architects have received a certificate from Premier Guarantee for the Excellence Awards 2011 recognising us as Architects for the National Winner of Small Development of the Year for Llay Farm.

The new build house that we designed in Frankby, Wirral has now been completed with just the final snagging items to be finished. Our clients moved in a short time ago and are absolutely thrilled with the finished project.

The new build house that we designed in Frankby, Wirral has now been completed with just the final snagging items to be finished. Our clients moved in a short time ago and are absolutely thrilled with the finished project.

We have managed the project for the client from start to finish and it is always great with a project to be able to see it through to completion and have it turn out just how it was envisaged.

The project is also somewhat of a ‘green’ building, with the intention of reducing the running costs of the building as it is lived in by the family. It features Solar Panels (PV’s) to produce electricity and the client has already linked up and is exporting electricity to the grid and receiving the Feed in Tariffs from the government scheme.

There are also Thermal Solar Panels on the roof to take advantage of the sun to provide hot water to the property and reduce the workload on any boiler needed for this and therefore again reduce running costs.

The whole house is heated by underfloor heating which is manage by LCD displays installed in each room with a central control unit in the utility room. With UFH only requiring water at 40-50 degrees rather than radiators at about 80 degrees is considered more economical to run that traditional heating. All these technologies combined with a very well insulated property with high specification windows,  should make the property  cheaper to heat. The property achieved a high B rating on its energy assessment so it will be interesting to monitor it over it’s first winter to see what the bills actually are.

The conversion of the Listed Barn that we worked on with Kitwe Developments Limited has just been awarded a prestigious award by Premier Guarantee, a market leader in providing Structural Warranties, Building Control and Developer Support Services.

Meadow Barns, the new residential development recently completed by developer Kitwe Developments, has been picked from thousands of schemes across the country to receive the ‘Commended Award’ for the Small Development (2-10 units) category at this year’s Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards.   This award is the latest in a long line of accolades awarded to the company since their formation in 2005.

Approval permission was granted for the application submitted by Bromilow Architects in 2010 and work has continued on the barn with the show home opening in March 2011. The scheme has now been completed and has picked up the above award along with a ‘commendation’ award from Wrexham Civic Society.

Externally, the building is vitually finished and we are just awaing the aluminium cills to go with the Velfac windows that are looking great.

The new build house designed for our client in Frankby is nearing completion.

Externally, the building is vitually finished and we are just awaing the aluminium cills to go with the Velfac windows that are looking great.

The glass balcony using a system from Q-Railing has been installed.

Internally the bathrooms have been finished save for a few minor items.

The majority of the staircase has been installed and you can imagine from the photo what a task it has been. One of the sides of the staircase is curved. The drawings of the design and the maths involved in working out the width and angle of each tread and riser was hard enough.  The curve of the stringer changes radius as it reaches the floor amaking every tread unique, so making it must have been a real challenge, but R&M Joinery have produced a staircase of great quality and you can already tell that when it is finally finished, it will look great and be a real statement in the hall.

The eco-technologies that have been installed are up and running. The PV solar panels on the roof are producing electricity and earning the client an income. The solar hot water panels are heating up the water to reduce the reliance on the main boiler and the rainwater harvesting tank is full from all the rain we have had and is being used to flush the wc’s in the house. Coupled with the excellent insulation values these technologies are all contributing to minimising the energy usage and hence running  costs of the home for our client.

In the next couple of weeks the garage and external works will be finished and the internal aspects finalised.

Its been a while since our last update on the new build house in Frankby, Wirral but thiings are really progressing well on site.

The exterior is nearly finished with the final Velfac windows being fitted following the rendering of the external elevations with the  self coloured silicon K Rend system.

Here at Bromilow Architects, we really like the way the Velfac windows work and have used them on many projects in the past. No matter whether the windows or doors open or are fixed, each window still looks the same. They are a timber frame internally with options for finishes, but the external opening element is powder coated aluminium which will give a long lasting durable finish. . Internally the plastering to the first floor level is nearly finished with some tiling beginning in the bathrooms and en-suites. Once the plastering has been finished, the second fix of the electrics and plumbing can be finished .

The ground floor is being boarded out with plastering due to commence next week followed by the ground floor underfloor heating and screed in the next couple of weeks.

Bromilow Architects have recently obtained planning permission for this contemporary extension to a large villa in the Birkdale Conservation area.

The rear of the house was a collection of small rooms with little connection to the large garden outside and the clients wanted to make better use of this space . The small size of the existing kitchen was typical for  this age of house and did not offer the kind of living space that suited this grand house.

The proposal opens up these space to provide a family living space over looking the substantial gardens. A new extension to the rear of the property will provide a fantastic dining area with large expanses of glass.
