The Holistic Birthing Centre in Northwich, Cheshire was a conversion of a disused GP premises, which was originally a Victorian house. The Birth Centre is run by a team of Independent Midwives, who provide private maternity care to clients in the Northwest.
The midwives philosophy is one of belief in low-tech, woman centred care for clients and their families, and therefore the brief was specific in ensuring the building felt warm and homely as well as complying with the latest clinical and infection control requirements, without appearing too hospital-like.
This is one of only a handful of private Birth Centres in the country, and as such required registration with the Care Quality Commission. We worked alongside the midwives during the consultation and inspection phases, until registration was achieved.
