TRANFORMATION OF 1980’S NEW BUILD IN TO ECO HOME

A project to transform a 1980’s ‘Mock Tudor’ home in to a modern Eco Home for a family.

The house sits on an amazing plot with fantastic views from its hilltop setting. It was built in the 1980’s in a ‘mock tudor” style with brick to the ground floor and half timbered rendering to the upper floor.

Our Clients had bought the property from the original owners and developers and wanted to modernise the property to suit their lifestyle and provide more space.

A previous scheme by another local architect had failed to gain planning before we were approached to help them with the project.

We quickly built a rapport with the client and worked through initial design concepts without looking at the previous designs but did review the pre-application advice that had been received to see what the issues were.

After revisiting the brief and working with the clients at design sessions to sketch and explore ideas. We proposed a rear extension to open up the kitchen and living space to the garden, a first floor extension over the garage and internal re-modelling to organise the spaces to better suit the family.

Together with the structural changes and extensions, the property will be externally insulated with a render finish to improve the thermal values to well in excess of current building regulations. New windows  and internal works will be installed to improve air tightness with heating by new under floor heating to be provided by a heat pump to reduce the heating costs of the finished house and improve comfort levels.
