Allport-Dental-Practice-2

With our recent experience of working with dentists in Wirral to improve their facilities and helping them to provide a better environment for their patients, we were invited by Dr Geoff Brown, the dental advisor at Wirral PCT to attend a conference hosted at the Village Hotel in Bromborough, Wirral.  The conference centred around the new HTM01-05 ‘Decontamination in primary care dental practices’ and its implementation within practices over the next few months and beyond.  Presentations were given by Dr Christine Whitworth, Lecturer in Decontamination and General Dental Practice (GDP) and from Dr Mike Williams the GDP Advisor at Warrington PCT.

The talks gave a good insight as to the practical side of what dental practices will be expected to do under the guidance, with some grim images being shown of how not to do things when moving towards best practice. It was a great event to meet and discuss the guidance with dentists and an opportunity to further enhance our knowledge and how this would impact on the design and layout of dental surgeries.

The main thrust of the guidance is the implementation of a Local Decontamination Unit within the practice and as Chartered Architects with our recent experience and knowledge, we believe we are in the best position to help practices plan and then implement any the alteration and adaption of current dental practices to economically move towards the best practice guidance.
